Why does Utua recommend the Visa Multi-currency card from Aljazira Bank?

The Visa Multi-currency is an international credit card offered by Aljazira Bank that allows cardholders to load up to 22 currencies onto a single card, reducing the need to exchange physical cash while traveling — a feature that adds real convenience and practicality to everyday use.

Given these features, which we’ll explore in more detail below, we recommend the Visa Multi-currency card for anyone who travels frequently outside Saudi Arabia or makes recurring payments in foreign currency.

Being able to hold balances in up to 22 different currencies on the same card reduces exposure to exchange-rate fluctuations at the time of purchase, since the amount can be debited directly from the corresponding currency, when available and with sufficient balance.

Another advantage is the integration with Aljazira Bank’s app and online banking, which lets you add, transfer and track the balance of each currency in real time. For travelers who regularly visit multiple countries or handle international business, this flexibility can save time and reduce reliance on physical currency exchange offices.

Visa Multi-currency benefits in practice

In practice, the card supports currencies such as the US dollar, British pound, euro, UAE dirham and Saudi riyal, as well as additional currencies including the Japanese yen, Swiss franc, Australian dollar, Canadian dollar, Indian rupee, Bahraini dinar, Kuwaiti dinar, Omani riyal, Singapore dollar, Swedish krona, Turkish lira, Moroccan dirham, Bangladeshi taka, Qatari riyal and Egyptian pound.

This wide range of options suits both leisure travelers and professionals who move frequently between different regions. Beyond the currency features, the Aljazira Bank card is part of the Ajwaa rewards program, which turns purchases into points that can be redeemed for vouchers, products, cashback and other options within the bank’s ecosystem.

There’s also the La Tajil program, which lets you convert eligible purchases into monthly installments, plus emergency card replacement within 48 hours for cardholders who lose their card while traveling.

Card fees and charges

Like any credit card, the Visa Multi-currency has a fee structure worth reviewing before applying. According to Aljazira Bank’s official information, the annual fee is 75 Saudi riyals, with an issuance fee of the same amount, both subject to the country’s 15% value-added tax (VAT). There is also a 35-riyal charge for cash withdrawals and transfers — known as the cash advance fee — while transferring funds from the card to a bank account is free.

For anyone using the card in a currency that isn’t already loaded, or without enough balance in the corresponding currency, a 2% foreign transaction fee applies per transaction. It’s also worth factoring in the 25-riyal fee for adding each extra currency to the card, the 15-riyal replacement fee in case of loss or theft, and the 25-riyal fee for each incorrectly filed dispute.

The official information reviewed doesn’t specify a monthly profit rate (the equivalent of an interest rate at conventional banks) or specific late-payment penalties, so we recommend confirming these terms directly with the bank before signing the contract.

Author’s opinion

The Visa Multi-currency stands out for its currency-management convenience and for the solidity of the issuing institution, factors that tend to weigh positively for frequent travelers. The flexibility of managing several currencies on a single card, combined with Aljazira Bank’s more than four-decade history as a Sharia-compliant bank regulated by SAMA, are points that bring added security to consumers.

On the other hand, it’s worth noting that not all details about financial charges — such as the monthly profit rate and potential late-payment penalties — are spelled out in the public materials reviewed, which calls for extra attention before signing the contract.

The documentation reviewed also offers no guarantee of an annual fee waiver or automatic approval: the final decision to issue the card rests with Aljazira Bank, based on its own credit assessment.
